Every year 5th September is celebrated as Teacher's day in India. When Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan became second president of India in the year
1962 some of his students and friends asked him if they can celebrate his birthday. He replied that "Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege
if 5th September is observed as Teachers' Day."
Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5th September 1888 in a Brahmin family in Triutani, Andhra Pradesh. He was a great philosopher, a loved teacher and became second President of India in year 1962.
The teacher in Indian society has always been respected with very high regards. The famous lines of great poet Kabir says it all -
"Guru Govind dono khade kake lagu paay. Balihari Guru aapki Govind diyo batay"
(Govind the God said if I am stading along side your teacher first pay respect to teacher and then to me).
