Some questions, Kahaiya Kumar and his position against current Government

by Jitesh Sinha

Any observer after watching last few weeks of discussion in public forums and following the reports and subsequent statements by some highly positioned Government officials/minister would say that the fight is in between student union represented by Kanhaiya Kumar vs Modi's BJP Government.

Much has been said and analyzed by highly informed and respected journalists around the world of what has happened since the report first broke out on one news channel and subsequent arrest, Patiala house lawyer's drama and what not. Every available detail of the events has been dissected into pieces and has been positioned on some line or other.

However, there were some questions of concern and in my view must be discussed:

Kanhaiya slogan of AZADI from hunger, social injustices etc are the pertinent arguments and calls for a revolution and change indeed. But how can it be an argument against the current BJP government? Is this protest or movement what Kanhaiya is leading today has started with BJP coming in power and was initiated because of government actions? In his speech he takes jibes against MP Modi and HRD Minister Smiriti Irani but he fails to mention even one person from the party which ruled the country for more than 50 years. Are these issues of farmer suicide, social injustice, lapse in education system, freedom of speech which is central to Kanhaiya campaign a recent phenomenon?

When one journalist asks about the support of prominent person from other party he says everyone who loves the country will support. Is this the truth or courtesy in saying, even knowing that what other political parties has done to the country.

The handling of whole Kanhaiya episode by state machinery has been immature to say least. The anger and the complaint against the Government handling of the whole episode is right in every way but to link these age old issues of India and to attribute the failure solely to current government, in my view is not correct.

No, Kanhaiya during his speed never said current government is solely responsible but is it not that evident after explicit jibe on current government ministers and lack of mention of any other political party.

It is highly condemnable the irresponsible tweets coming out from the highly positioned ministers, state inability to control law and order even in court premises and most dangerous of all the inability of government to control hooligans of self declared SENAs and groups. If the government not able to control these mushrooming hooligans of self declared righteous Senas and groups, may be all good things being done by the government would be out of discussion space very soon.
